PACKING YOURSELF
Bedrooms
Free household packing tips to guide you in the packing yourself bedrooms process. Here are some household packing tips. This packing guide is basically the same for all bedrooms: * lamps * clothes * shoes, and purses * decorations, mirrors, pictures * rugs * bedding * misc. (toys, jewelry boxes, purses, backpacks) So now let's start packing yourself in the bedrooms. The size of moving boxes you will use are: 3 cube, 4.5 cube, and dishpack. And the following packing tips will guide you in packing yourself for the bedrooms. Lamps Wrap all lamps in paper pads (or blankets & paper). If they are ceramic or glass, you will pack them into dishpacks. Otherwise they may be packed into 3 or 4.5 cubes, whichever one they will fit into with room on top for cushioning before you close the flaps. Remove all lampshades leaving the harp attached (there are little metal sliders holding the harp to the lamp, just slide them both upward and squeeze the harp together to remove the whole piece from lamp base). Lampshades will be packed separately from the lamp as they are fragile and you don't want to crush them. You may nest smaller lampshades into larger ones. But be sure to put plenty of paper in between to protect both shades, and to keep the harp from tipping sideways and possibly damaging the lampshade. Also wrap the light bulb carefully and put in with lamp shades. Clothes These may be left in dressers if the move is going from house to house. Put a piece or two of paper on top and tucked around clothes to keep them from sliding around. This paper will also keep any dust from settling on the clothes. The fuller each drawer, the better, but not STUFFED ! If the shipment is being put into storage, then the clothes should be packed into boxes. Also NO small items like pictures, books, jewelry, or knick-knacks in the drawers. These will be packed in boxes so they don't fall out while the dresser is being moved. Hanging Clothes Wardrobe cartons are THE VERY BEST for moving all your hanging clothes. They come complete with a metal hanging bar. One thing to remember is not to cram the clothes in so tight that you will wrinkle them. Also if you have some long items like umbrellas, walking canes, or flags, they will fit nicely in the wardrobe carton in a corner and not harm any clothes.

Shoes & PursesPack these into 3 cube cartons. Wrap each pair of shoes together, but with paper in between to keep them from getting scuffed. Each purse will be wrapped individually. Decorations, Mirrors, Pictures In packing yourself in the bedrooms, there may be many different kinds of decorations. The following packing tips will guide you in packing these. Of course if you have something difficult, feel free to contact us as to how to pack it. Artificial flowers and plants should be packed by themselves to ensure they do not get damaged. This is where the tissue paper comes in handy. Other decor, like wall hangings, or figurines may be packed together with soft items, like bedding or pillows. Rugs In packing yourself for bedrooms, you may have area rugs. Here is a good way to handle these. Area rugs: After you vacuum these, roll them up (do not fold, or you may leave ugly creases in them) and stand them up in a 4.5 cube carton. If too long for that, put them into a lamp carton (this is a specialty box available from moving companies or moving materials supply company). You may also put long items like gift wrap, walking canes, the flag, etc in the tall rug box. If you don't have any lamp cartons, leave the flaps UP on a 4.5 cube carton and then cap it with a 3 cube carton. Bedding Whatever was not used for padding should be packed into a 3 or 4.5 cube. But be sure to have at least one full set of bedding to use to make up the bed at the new house. This box should be clearly labeled (on the side), so you can locate it easily at the new home. Or if there is room, you may want to put them in a dresser drawer. Misc: Jewelry boxes: Wrap these with A LOT of cushioning, like paper, paper pads, or a blanket. And then put them in a box upright, with soft items like clothes or bedding around it. Toys: Pack these in 3 or 4.5 cube cartons. Pack paper and soft stuff around them to keep items from jiggling around and getting broken. Remember; paper is cheap insurance !
