THE KIDS
Moving With Kids
Moving with kids can be a real challenge! They don't always understand; "Why do we have to leave?" Especially if they are of school age, they are leaving behind friends. Remember to be patient, loving, and understanding. While moving is stressful for you, can you imagine how it must be for them?

Tell them what an adventure this is going to be! Choose some positive points about the new area and house you are moving to. Like, "You'll finally have your very own room!" Or, the new YMCA is only 2 blocks away, and THEY have a swimming pool! Let them help with your moving sale. If you buy them a new toy or stuffed animal for the trip to your new home, it can be their traveling buddy! You could also give a child one of those disposable cameras so they can take pictures of their old home and of their new home. They will also want to take pictures on the trip. You should plan to take some games to keep the kids occupied in the car. Or maybe a movie, if you have a portable dvd player. And play some traveling games with them on the road. Do you remember any that you played as a child? How about the alphabet game -- finding the letters on license plates or billboard signs. Use your imagination.
Make sure you get things in order for leaving this school and getting ready to start at their new school. You must have their immunization records, etc. Another important point is to get their medical records from their doctor. The doctor may also be able to refer you to a doctor in your new town, ask them.
