MOVING COMPANY QUOTES

Moving Company Quotes

Choose a Moving Company. Some employers (who will be paying for your move) let you choose your moving company. But some already have an account with a major mover and are given a substantial discount for using them exclusively. (like Microsoft moves are all handled by North American Van Lines and Safeway by Allied Van Lines, etc)

You should call for at least 3 moving companies quotes in your city, or area. A salesperson will arrange a time to meet with you in person at your residence so they can give you a fair and competitive estimate.

How Much Am I Going To Pay?

Among the 3 bids, one will probably be either very high, or very low. Don't choose that one. And don't always choose the lowest bid. Service is the best indicator of a successful move.

Check out the company you want to use. Remember, you will get what you pay for. If your discount is too big, the experienced and claim-free driver won't want to haul it. Why should he when he can get a lower discounted move to haul and make more money? (Wouldn't you?)

Also find out what type of payment will be expected. The most common is a cashier's check made out to the moving company. Most major movers will also accept credit cards.

The LEAST acceptable method is cash. Drivers do not want to be responsible for holding the cash until they get back to the moving agency. It's just too risky.

A List Of Questions To Ask Each Salesperson: (when they are at your home doing a physical estimate)

* Are you (your Company) a member of the BBB? (Better Business Bureau)

* How many years have you (your Company) been in business?

* Will I be charged hourly? How much?

* How long will it take to pack? Load? Move? (to new house)

* Are all the packing materials included in this moving company quote? (boxes, paper, bubble wrap)

* Are all helpers furnished or am I responsible for hiring help?

* Are there any hidden fees that I should be aware of? (fuel, mileage)

* Is my moving company quote Binding or Non-Binding?

* Please explain fully your Liability For Loss or Damage.

* What is Full Value Protection? How about Released Value Protection?

* Do you have an 800 number where I may reach you?

* How do you charge for storage? Where is it? Is it secure?

* Do you charge extra for stairs, elevators, long-carry, extra pick-up or extra stop for delivery?

* How about pianos, autos, boats, 4-wheelers?

Upon reviewing your moving company quotes, you will be able to choose the right one for you.

Summary

So now you've chosen a moving company.

Make sure you understand everything on the estimate. If anything is unclear, be sure to have the salesperson explain it to you fully.

Also be sure to have all phone numbers in case questions come up later.
