MOVING COMPANY PACKING

These moving service packing tips will guide you through this part of your move. With a moving company packing job there are a few things to be aware of. Follow along.

When Are You Moving?

Your move is being handled by XYZ Moving Company. You have chosen a date and your move is put on a Planning Board.

TIP: It takes GREAT coordination for moving shipments (yes there may be more than one customer per truck). Drivers must have a full load going from one general area to another general area at the same time.

The cost of transportation is very high (and rising every day). Not just fuel, but labor, insurance, permits, equipment, and more.

So PLEASE don't call your salesperson and tell them you've decided you don't want to move this week, but would like to wait until next week, or the next week. That really throws a monkey wrench into the works !!

<<>>Packing Crew

A day or two before a truck is scheduled to load your shipment a moving company packing crew will be dispatched to your residence to pack EVERYTHING in your house so it will be ready when the driver (local or over-the-road long haul) arrives.

This crew may be people that work hourly for XYZ Moving Company or it may be a contractor. Either way they are expertly trained and experienced.

Someone will call you the day before the pack is scheduled to start to introduce themselves and answer any questions you may have. (at least most professional companies will do this) If you don't hear from anyone the day before your pack is scheduled, feel free to call your salesperson.

The lead moving company packer will double check the address he/she has on their paperwork and ask if there are any special circumstances, like stairs, elevators, parking, etc. Some jobs take more than one day. It all depends on the size of the house, and the availability of packing people.

Pack day

Alright, the moving company packing crew has arrived! And they are on time!! Yeaaa! A great start to a great move! They are neat, clean, and in uniform. You will show them through the house and point out anything of special concern for you.

You have separated all the items you will need until you get to your new home. Put all these things in one or two areas so they don't get packed by mistake. See the Bare Necessities List and the Do Not Pack Checklist for some great packing tips.

Pay close attention to these residential packing tips.

Packing Is Done

Everything is packed, and it went so smoothly!! But before the crew leaves, check the ENTIRE house to be sure nothing was forgotten or missed.

You don't want to leave a drawer full of your favorite kitchen gadgets for the new residents! So check every closet, cabinet, door, and drawer to be sure everything was packed to your satisfaction.

All the boxes are now inventoried with a colored tag that has a lot number on it that is only for your shipment. You will now be asked to sign paperwork and you will get copies of everything you sign.

TIP: Treat your packers and movers with respect and everything will go smoothly. But if you offer them a beer, they will have to graciously decline, after all they are packing and/or hauling your favorite china, you know!

It is not uncommon to furnish a light lunch and refreshments for the people handling your shipment. Also some people give their packers/movers a tip. I personally tip my service people (waitresses, lawn care, mail carrier). I feel it is a great way to show my appreciation for a job well done.
