THE MOVING COMPANIES GOAL
Goal: The most important moving companies goal is to move their customer efficiently, safely, and without damage in a timely manner.
Do Not Plan to Relocate In The Summertime, If You Don't Have To: The busiest season for this business IS summer time. The kids are out of school and the weather is usually great. So consequently, this is the time of year when it is hardest to get the day you want, IF you don't plan ahead. In other words, you can't call xyz Moving Company and tell them you would like to move out of your house on Friday and today is Wednesday. It just ain't gonna happen. :-) <<>>
So understand that you must plan ahead as much as possible. The cost at this time of year may be higher too, because it is the Peak Season. Other Bad Times: The beginning and the end of any month is usually very busy. These are the times when leases or contracts start and end. So it would be a good idea to move during the middle of the month, if at all possible. Start The Process: When you call to request a quote, you will be connected to a salesperson. If this is the company you eventually choose, then stay in touch with your salesperson through the entire process. Many moving companies offer international moving services. Just ask them about this if you're interested in moving to another country. And please be sure to see our friends at
Expats Moving And Relocation Guide
for some great help with your important move. Just a short note here: Don't call salespeople too early in the day or too late. Make your calls during normal business hours. The reason I mention this is because these days, almost every salesperson has a cell phone. And they carry it with them EVERYWHERE! So they would prefer to discuss business during normal business hours. :-) The Government Tariff: What a lot of people don't know is that ALL relocation companies must operate on a government tariff. That means every one of them must charge the same amount for a particular move. The competition comes into play when a salesperson offers the customer (you) a discount. There are different KINDS of moves. Local (within a city or area), short-haul (usually within 500 miles), and long-distance (either within a state or to a different state). A relocation company will also do office moves. All these are covered in the government tariff book.
