MOVING BOXES
Easy Way The easiest way to go is with new moving boxes. Many sizes of boxes as well as specialty boxes (wardrobe, lamp, picture or mirror) are available from a variety of sources. A wardrobe is a moving box with built in handles and a hanging bar to put your clothes on. They are heavy duty, very clever, and I love to use these! How To Make Up A Box When making up these boxes, you fold down the flaps BEFORE squaring up the box (while it is still flat, that is). Then open the box and securely tape the bottom shut (2 or 3 strips of tape should be sufficient). This keeps the flaps out of your way while packing. And you will know exactly when the box is full. A sharp tug will break the flap connectors so you can close the box. Do NOT just cross fold the flaps, as they could easily come undone. Tape the side seams, too, if you wish, especially if the boxes are going to be put into storage. You don't want any little creepy crawlers getting into your clothes, or worse, into your foodstuffs. Sources You can order your moving boxes online if you want. Or you can go to a moving supplies store (u-haul, ups, etc) and purchase what you need. When you order your moving boxes online, they will be delivered to your home. And many of these companies offer free shipping. Watch for future additions to this site, as I will be adding many links for you, after I do the research. I will only include reputable businesses. Paper Another packing essential is newsprint. This is in fact the paper that newspapers are printed on (before the print) I hate using newspaper and getting my hands all black! And besides that, the print will not easily come off the dishes. Not even in the dishwasher. You will have to hand wash everything. On porous material, like pottery, the newsprint won't come off at all. Tape Gun A tape gun is a great tool. It doesn't take long to get the feel of how to use it, and it makes your packing job a LOT easier. (and faster!) A packing and moving supply company can furnish all your packing materials. Oh, and don't forget the tape! :-) You will find many uses for a tape gun even after your move is complete: * mailing packages * opening stored boxes and then having to tape them back closed * repacking Christmas or other holiday decorations * even for removing dog hair from your car carpet, seats, and even your clothes. Ease Of Loading By using moving boxes, you will find it easier to load the truck. Most of the boxes are made so they stack neatly on top of each other. That will make putting your puzzle together a lot easier. Naturally, you will put the heaviest box on the floor (of the truck), which will probably be a dishpack. Then as you stack other boxes on top of that one, each one will get lighter and lighter until you reach the roof. So, what do you think? Is this all getting easier? ;-)
