ADDITIONAL SERVICES
What Additional Charges Might You Be Required To Pay For?
The following items might be additional services required for your up-coming move. These are usually charges by a moving company, but review these even if you are moving yourself.
*Appliance Service If you are going to be moving a refrigerator with an ice maker, then the water lines must be disconnected. Another appliance is the washing machine. A top load machine is quite simple to service and get ready for your move, but a front load machine is much more complex. Check with the manufacturer for their recommendations. Usually with an electric dryer you only need to unplug it. But with a gas or propane dryer, the fuel source must be disconnected (safely). <<>> Stairs and/or Elevators A moving cost quote might include charges for a stair carry or elevator charge. These two situations require more work and time for the movers and so the result is an additional moving service charge. Long Carry A long carry usually consists of a distance of 75 feet or more. Like above this results in more time and work for the moving company, and so more money from you, the customer. Shuttle When the distance is much too far to carry everything to the moving truck, then a shuttle truck is required. Maybe you live at the end of a long road or driveway where a large moving van cannot access your residence. Some apartment complexes do not have adequate room for a moving truck, either. There are also some large cities that ban moving trucks. Their streets are just too narrow. When a shuttle is required, your salesperson will be able to quote you a fair price on this additional service. Pool Table Disassembling Obviously if you have a pool table to move, then it must be disassembled. If you do this yourself, there will be no additional charges. But if the movers or a 3rd party service is hired to do the disassembling, then yes, there will be an added charge. Other Large Furniture Pieces We have seen many large furniture pieces that require disassembling. Unfortunately these furniture items are usually made of a press wood which does not withstand very many disassembles and re-assembles. The items that I have witnessed are large master bedroom pieces, which include a built-in nightstand/wardrobe on either side of the bed and an overhead light board connecting these two. I have also seen very large entertainment centers that require disassembling. So, here again, if you do the disassembling, there will not be any additional charges. Piano Charges Pianos require delicate handling. There are additional charges associated with moving pianos. But not to worry, (most) movers are experienced and qualified to handle a piano move. Grandfather Clock A grandfather clock requires servicing before being moved. You may wish to do this yourself, or you may hire this chore done by the moving company or a 3rd party service company. Another consideration would be for crating. And this would be determined between you and your moving company salesperson. Are you moving across the country or just across town? In summary, the additional services listed above will result in additional charges with a moving company. Also, if you're moving yourself, be aware of these obstacles, so you are prepared on moving day. If you have any of the above mentioned conditions, you may need to hire extra help on the day you move. See our page regarding
